OUR SOCIAL PURPOSE

Great Products, Great People

At Shetland Soap Company we work alongside people with a learning disability or autism to produce a range of exclusive handmade soap and skincare products inspired by our beautiful islands.

Our team are truly exceptional.

Each bottle of liquid soap is hand mixed, hand poured and hand labelled. Each bar of cold pressed soap is hand mixed, hand cut, hand trimmed and hand wrapped.

All of our products are handmade in our small production area in Lerwick, a stone’s throw away from the sea.

At the heart of everything we do are our values.

• Respect
We recognise each others differences and show consideration for one another.

• Equality
We believe that everyone contributes equally to the success of our organisation and as such will be valued and appreciated.

• Fairness
We are committed to the principles of social justice and opposing prejudice.

• Excellence
We believe in working hard to ensure we are the best we can be for our participants, staff and customers.

• Accountability
We account for our activities, accept responsibility for them, and to share the results in a transparent manner.

Their positive work ethic is outstanding and the overall success of Shetland Soap Company is due to their commitment to excellence.

What our people have to say:

"I have learnt so many skills since gaining a supported placement"

"As well as learning shop skills, I have developed good communication skills, stock control and presentation, and have enjoyed helping customers who come into the shop"

"I have learnt how to ensure the neat and tidy presentation of products ready for sale"

"The staff who support me (in production) were really encouraging and helped me to try different tasks, such as weighing out ingredients and liquids. I was very worried about doing this but with the support of staff I have been able to overcome this and have grown in confidence."
